Monday December 16th

Kiddos!

WOW!  What a day.  I am so sorry if I overloaded you with science, but I can't help but feel like you already know so much of it that it might be easier than it seems.  How cute were the boys obsessing over the toy cars when we talked about streamlining.  And I don't know, what you call a hot dog, I call a Bugatti...I definitely need to work on my quick sketches!  Thank you for a fun day of science and I really hope you enjoyed it!

So, not too much to report today...

- Science Final is on Thursday - we will be having three blocks of review of Wednesday to make sure you've got it!  I know you will do great.

- Science Study Guide is due on Wednesday - I am trying to keep you independent - fill out as much or as little of the study guide as you need.  If I see that you aren't filling out very much and your test marks are low, something will definitely change.  If you just want to use pictures, that's fine by me!  Your studying is for you and you only!  But study hard and you relax SO much better over the holidays knowing you gave it your all!

- Random Acts of Kindness continues tomorrow!  We have four classes super excited to work with us and I know you are excited to work with them too!  What an amazing thing to do with the Christmas spirit!  The gift of time and love is truly what it's all about!  Way to go 6B!

-Secret Santa's will happen on FRIDAY!  You must have your gift which needs to be between $5-10.  Please have it for the beginning of the day.

- Class party of Friday as well - if you are on the Christmas committee and need to bring something, please don't forget :)

- Pizza Party on Thursday - still bring a snack and some other components for lunch! :)

- FRIDAY IS A HALF DAY - Dismissal at 12:20! :)

- Hot Lunch on Wednesday

Please check the blog nightly...it is super important! And record your reading minutes! You are doing great so far!

Here is the blog question for the night...tonight it is worth 5 Minion Moola!  Explain streamlining and how it reduces DRAG!

Here are some pictures from our awesome week last week!

Sunday December 15th

6B!!

I hope you have had a great weekend and I hope this works...my computer has been doing weird things, so hopefully it posts.  This weekend has been a crazy one - between it being Friday the 13th and a full moon, it sure has been exciting!

6B has had such an incredible week.  I am so proud of this group and how they come together!!  I have never seen teamwork like this before.  Here are some examples of the great things happening in our wonderful classroom....

On Monday our class ran the Advent ceremony and they did a fabulous job!  They were leaders in front of the whole school and represented Notre Dame fantastically!  Thank you to the ten students who practiced and ran the celebration!

On Wednesday, Kendra and Connor participated in the 2013 Spelling Bee!  WOW did our class ever come out on top!  After multiple intense rounds of spelling, the final two were CONNOR AND KENDRA!  Connor came in second and Kendra got First Place in the Spelling Bee!  WOW!  You really represented 6B!  Not to mention the other 22 students in the class cheering the two of them on every time they spelled a word correctly.  This class really knows how to come together and work as a team.  It was so exciting for me to watch and I couldn't have been more proud.  Congrats to all of the students in 6B!  Thank you for being supportive peers!

Wednesday afternoon we were blessed to have HOJA perform for all of the students at the school.  They came spreading the powerful words about bullying and the difference between tattling and telling.  Quinten was pulled up on stage to sing and dance with the performs and boy did he do an AMAZING job!!  Quinten received a signed poster and CD, but HOJA was kind enough to sign autographs for all of the students in 6B that wanted one!  It was so special and the concert was amazing!  Our class was so impressed with them that we started to chant "ENCORE" and they did!  They performed What Does the Fox Say? And everyone in the gym loved it!  It was very special and GREAT WORK, Quinten!

Christmas Hamper - SUCCESS!  Our hamper was filled perfectly and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who brought something in.  We really appreciate it your generous donations in a time when we are already giving so much.  Thank you for helping a family in need!

On Friday we started our Random Act Of Kindness Run...working with the students in Mrs. Hopkyn's grade one class and let's just say they were SO happy to have us.  The Grade Six students worked on puzzles and Christmas games with the kids and boy was it fun!  Everyone had fun and definitely spread the Christmas spirit! :)

On Friday our school participated in a door decorating challenge.  All of the classes in the school decorated the outside of their door to celebrate the Christmas spirit.  The class decided to decorate the door with Minions and Gru with the theme - We Wish You a "Minion" Christmas.  Well, Mr. Gatti and Mrs. Malloy were in charge of picking the top four doors in division one and two.. Well, when we saw our Door as the top four well we went WILD!  I wish that I had had it one video because man was it ever priceless - you would have thought that we had won the whole thing!  We discussed how this wasn't about winning the pizza party, but coming together, working as a team, and celebrating the Christmas Spirit.  We waited patiently for the announcement and about an hour later Mrs. Malloy announced it....6B and the MINION WON THE DOOR DECORATING CHALLENGE!  YAHOO!!! A Pizza party will be happening on Thursday.  Congrats 6B - your positive attitude and togetherness really created the perfect atmosphere.  YOU ARE AN AMAZING GROUP OF STUDENTS!

You didn't have any homework this weekend except to start studying for your science final on Thursday.  We are doing our final concept tomorrow and then review.  Wednesday afternoon will all be review so you feel good and prepared for final on Thursday.

Your Blog Question tonight....come to me tomorrow with the answer and you will receive 3 Minion Moola!  YAHOO!!!

What is Bernoulli's Principle?

I have a ton of pictures and a cute video to post, but again, my computer is being weird.  I will post them tomorrow from my school computer and see if that works :)

HAPPY SUNDAY!  FIVE MORE SCHOOL DAYS UNTIL THE BREAK THAT WE ALL DESERVE!

Hello Kiddos!

Just a few friendly reminders before we get started on a crazy day...

-If your parents have decided to bring items for the Christmas hamper, they are due Friday December 13th.  If you haven't picked an item, an email was sent out for you to decide if you would like to participate.  There are a few items that we do not have yet and it would be great to get all of the items for our hamper :)  Thank you again for your help!

- Science Quiz on Monday - make sure you know the six properties of air and can explain them based on an experiment we have done.

- If you haven't turned in your report card envelopes, please do so as soon as possible and sign the front cover

I think that's it for now, Kiddos!  I look forward to seeing you tomorrow :)  We will also be discussing our classroom Christmas party on Monday - in case I forget, can someone remind me?

Also, I would like to thank you for reading my blog.  I am going to do a daily question.  You can comment on the blog post (not sure how it works, but give it a whirl) or just tell me tomorrow morning.  This one is worth TWO Minion Moola...but you have to tell me before we begin first block.  A little bit of responsibility on your part ;)

So...I know you're excited about!...What phase of the moon are we experiencing right now?  AND what phase of the moon comes next?

Have a wonderful night....only ten school days until Christmas break ....WOW!!  We all deserve a little break after all the hard work we have been putting in.

Keep warm!  Mrs. S

Monday December 2nd

Good Evening Grade Six!

Thank you so much for checking out my new blog.  This will be an excellent way to keep track of your work, connect with each other, and learn something new.

As you have heard, we are going to be starting our new Advent Joy Box today!  Remember to follow the directions and bring it back to school the next day.

We are also starting our newest Reading Project.  This reading project is going to be practice to get ready for a huge project in January.  Your job is to read every night and then have your parent record the information on the website.  It is quick and simple and a great way for me to track your reading.  In January we will be starting The Amazing Race Reading Program!  You will love it, but you will need to practice now to be ready for January.  I can't wait to see how much you read!

To get to the page where you can record the amount of time you read, you MUST COPY and PASTE the link into a new browser window.  Unfortunately, it's kind of touchy right now and I'm trying to work out the kinks.  You can try just clicking on it and hopefully it works!  Otherwise, pasting the link into a new window will work :) ENJOY!

At Home Reading Challenge

Please try to read twenty minutes a night!  Don't forget to log it...you may get small prizes as you go!

Science - if you haven't tried the spoon experiment at home, please don't forget to do so!  Explain to your parents how the fast moving fluid (water) creates low pressure and the high pressure air (the still air around the spoons) pushes the the two spoons into the low pressure.  TOO COOL!  Show and explain - it helps you to better understand :)

Keep up the great work, Kiddos!
